Road Trip with Pet

Road Trip with Pet

Pet travel in cars is the best way for a paw-fect road trip. Here is a complete guide for it.

ย Pre-Travel Preparations

ย  It is important to be prepared beforehand for your pet to travel. Here is a list of a fewย  ย  ย  ย things you need to keep in mind:

  • Visit the vet and get your pet checked. Ensure your pet is fit for travel.
  • If you can decide on the travel time, ensure it is either in the morning or evening, as your pet will be drowsy and it will be less sunny.
  • Take your pet on small positive trips around your place. Take him to his favorite place in the car to make him happy so that he wonโ€™t get scared in the car.
  • Book a pet-friendly hotel in advance for the best options if youโ€™re traveling overnight with your pet.

Things to Carry for Your Pet

    • Medicines and a first aid kit
    • A recent picture of your pet
    • Food, water, and treats
    • Favorite toy
    • Smell of home (old shirt, etc.)
    • Vaccination document
    • Leash and collar tag
    • Extra beddings
    • Pillows
    • Travel Bowls
    • Carrier
    • Litter box for a cat
    • Peepads for a dog

    ย

    During Travel

    • Donโ€™t keep your pet in the front seat. Put bedding in the back seat to cover the leg space for your petโ€™s safety.
    • Put car covers to protect the seats from your pet.
    • Keep the AC on to prevent your pet from suffering from heat.ย
    • Recline the seat so that your pet can sit comfortably.
    • Ensure that your windows are not too open.
    • Keep taking short breaks and let your pet stretch its legs.
    • Donโ€™t give your pet a lot of food, as it can make him sick.ย
    • Be sure to give your pet plenty of water and potty breaks.
    • You can remove the leash of your pet, but donโ€™t remove the tag/collar; let that be intact.
    • Donโ€™t let your pet keep its face out of the window, as it can be dangerous.
    • Never leave your pet alone in a parked car, even for a few minutes.

These are a few things you need to ensure when traveling with your pet.
